Yes thats right, the most easily developed for platform gets Call of Duty! Yes, I just called the iPhone a platform seeing as there are loads of games for it...

No, you read that headline right, "Russia recalls Modern Warfare 2." Turns out that controversial level in the beginning of the game didn't sit well with the Russian government. All over the internet today have been reports of the recall.
According to GotPS3.ru (yes its in Russian, click here for a translation) they had received exclusive information last Friday about the recall. And in the article it states that there is now a censored PC version of the game on sale and that there is a censored version of the console game en-route expected soon.

It turns out that, yes, if you offend a country and a government on a whole, your game will indeed be banned until censored.

Turns out that airport mission got IW more than they asked for, the public angry and now Russia...

Just caught this over at FPSadmin.

Updates to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The major changes include:

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Improved IWNet matchmaking


Thats all for now I guess, I've been traveling and just got back to internet so this week I'll get everyone up-to-date with what is going on.

The boy over at IGN have put together a really cool history of Call of Duty article for us. This is a great read, go check it out...
At a glance, Call of Duty is much like every other game out there; almost extraordinarily ordinary. To the uninitiated, it looks like another "me too" tale of heroic army men, told from a first-person perspective. But it's Call of Duty's ability to rise above the competition – and without the need for attention-grabbing gimmicks – that makes it so exceptional, even with six proper games in as many years, and just as many spin-offs. Modern Warfare 2 launched today all over the world, and at most if not all of the launch parties the line was round the store.

I hope you all are enjoying it and that the game is good. I don't have a copy yet but I'm off travelling tomorrow and will post news and updates as I read them.

Congrats to IW for making a hot off the press seller.

Activision, the publishers of the Call of Duty series have said recently that there is a new Call of Duty in the works to be out in 2010. Yes, that's right, our yearly instalments of Call of Duty continues next year. With Modern Warfare 2 just days away from hitting the consumer market, we can all now look forward to the 7th instalment of Call of Duty.
My question though, who is officially doing Call of Duty 7? My money's on Treyarch since Infinity Ward is still finishing Modern Warfare 2.

Here the quote that says it all thanks to IGN.com

"In 2010, Activision publishing is expected to release a strong product line of innovative new titles," Tipple said. "The diversified lineup will include, among others, titles based on the best-selling franchises in the company's history, including Call of Duty, Guitar Hero, Tony Hawk, Shrek, and Spiderman, and a select few new intellectual properties such as Blur and Singularity, and a strong catalog based on our top sellers of 2009."

Looks like requiring Steam to play a game on the PC, that isn't a traditonal Valve game, makes digital distributors mad. Over on VE3D, two articles were posted about the response of two Digital Distributors in regards to Modern Warfare 2.
Little snip-it of those responses:

From Direct 2 Drive:
At Direct2Drive, we believe strongly that when you buy a game from us, you shouldn't be forced to install and run a 3rd party software client to be able to play the game you purchased. Because COD MW 2 requires you, the consumer, to do that, we aren't able to offer the game via Direct2Drive at this time.


And from Stardock Impulse download service:
Impulse will not be selling Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 either. We share some of the same concerns as Direct2Drive over the bundling of the Steam client with the game. The most obvious issue is the forced inclusion of a competitor's store that blocks us from carrying the game.
Our issues with the game are solely with the Steamworks bundling.


Looks like bundling a game with Steam (no matter how good the idea is) will still disrupt digital distributors from distributing your game.

IW had posted a PSA about grenade spam up on youtube over the weekend, and took it down the next day. Its title Fight Against Grenade Spam, which if turned into an acronym is rather offensive. IW the apologized for the video and said they didn’t mean any offence by putting it up and calling it the “Fight Against Grenade Spam.”

If you want to find the PSA, just search around the internet, the ones on youtube keep getting taken down.

On November 3rd, some of Infinity Ward’s staff took part in a chat with the Best Buy forum users. … before you ask, no I didn’t know Best Buy had forums either… During the chat, of which the log is here (insert link), various questions popped up about the game, quite a few about the PC skew. The worst thing I’ve picked out from the transcript though, is this : from Vince Zampella “02:43 Vince-IW: No plans for a demo currently. We are still working on finishing the PC game right now (yes, I know... we need to get done!).” 6 days until this game hits stores, I’m a bit worried for the PC version. As you go through the chat log, more and more questions pop up about IWNET and max players; two big answers to both of those, IWNET hosting, when the host quits hosting gets transferred to someone else with little interruption, and max players across the board in all platforms is… 9v9, yes 18, a far cry from the 64 or 50 players you could get on the PC dedicated servers.
Yes there was a lot of PC questions, but if you wish to go through the chat log, I’ve nabbed one and put it up, so click read more to see it all!
Oh yea, PC players, there is no lean in the multiplayer. And PC players, your PC online profiles are stored online, so no worrying about them getting deleted when doing the annual format of Windows.

3rd person is limited to a few playlists, and it's always enabled for all players when you're in such a playlist. It's a lot of fun when you want some variety. The look is similar to spectating a game. Note that not all the attachments and perks are as useful in 3rd person.

PC has no common provider of matchmaking like on xbox360, so to have match making on the PC we had to create IW.Net, kind of similar to the match making networks created for RTS games on PC. This was not a trivial undertaking, although it's understandable that these days consumers may take match match making for granted.

Sentry guns are basically miniguns on a tripod that react to enemy movement. They are a killstreak or you can get them in a care package. We're big on balancing weapons in MW2, especially in MP. Although a tactically placed sentry can be devastating, it can be destroyed by the other team if attacked correctly. It is very balanced and a welcome addition to the MP experience.

Well none of the programmers are in the chat today.. so let's just say it's crazy programmer magic. It's a lot more than just K/D though. The important thing is not that all players in a game are the exact same skill, but that the teams are balanced.

why are there so litle recoil in the weapons in mw, and is it the same in MW2? We have done a shooting test on most of the weapons used in MW and it is like even imposibel to hit a target with not using burst fire, and that also even with the small smg. with spraying 1 mag, it was like in 20 meters only from 1 to 2 shot that did hit and that was the 1 and 2 first bullets going out, rest was fare from hitting anything. So personaly, i feel like the weapons are mutch to easy to shoot with in MW.

The inspiration behind so many inclusions to MW2's MP was basically the fun factor. We'll look at something we did in the past and say "Wouldn't it be fun if we *insert blank here*". With MW2 we had the chance to do a lot of just that. We implemented things that at first were very experimental and unbalanced, but through time and hours and weeks of testing and balancing, we came out with something amazing.

Again, Mr. Josh Olin announced that the PC users can play with the PC Devs next week with details if you follow him via twitter.

A quick heads-up, we'll be hosting another week-long Game w/ Devs campaign next week - you'll be able to join our server, and play with the PC developers every night from 5 - 6pm PST each day next week!

Josh Olin announced via Twitter yesterday that Treyarch is still supporting the PC with Modern Warfare 2 just days away.

Hey PC fans!

Good news – the team here at Treyarch are preparing a 1.7 patch to wrap up a few of the lingering issues surrounding the PC version of the game. Here’s a snippet from the 1.7 readme:
Fixed a voice chat crash on systems with no default recording device selected.
Fixed an issue causing erroneous duplicate qport errors.
Server admins can disable team switching by setting g_allow_teamchange to 0. Players will be restricted to Auto-Assign in team-based gametypes.
The team is just putting the finishing touches on it before sending it off to QA for testing. No ETA is planned yet, but I’ll update when I get better clarity on its progress.

The Call of Duty series racked up at the Golden Joystick awards, three to be exact.

World at War racked up two, Multiplayer Game of the Year and Nintendo Game of the Year.
